. . . about inspiration and intent
It helps to share the planet with people who are willing to laugh with me as well as to clue me in on other points of view. My family of four funny offspring are a big part of that.
My daughters gave me grown up lunch partners, a garrett in the mountains during the high desert sabbatical and most special, a precious granddaughter.
All somehow survived art students walking through their house, kittens' birth in underwear drawers, each other's cooking, mom's artsy clothing choices, gallery openings, cross country art trips from hell and other assorted madness.
Third and outnumbered in this group of funny, smart, talented people, my serious yet offbeat son sends me photos from Pisa, Brussels and Guam. He and the dedicated work he does are sources of immense pride to me. I could not do what I do without this special mix of spouse & offspring. They always will be my great joy.

Entertaining and supportive, they have been my base through changes and challenges. Some addressed invitations, some framed art and others answered phones. And there were some who provided comic relief. We learned together about teamwork and family.

Recent years have brought changes and challenges when I needed more from my support system like the ladies shown in 2004 at left. As young moms in Lancaster Pennsylvania,we began meeting for creativity time in the early 70s. While refusing to believe it could have been that long ago, they continued to share with and encourage me, make me laugh and see me through bumpy transitions. And then there's my fabulously supportive online support system. You can visit some of them here.

The world of art which can be pretentious and downright silly is for me at least less about what the reviewers say and more about what the viewer experiences. I have fun with art making, as I suppose is pretty obvious from the getup on the flat Susan (like Flat Stanley) at right. I'm thinking the hat came straight from the queen mum's wardrobe. I hope that my philosophy has kept me stayed close to my roots and I sincerely appreciate the special people who helped along the way.
